Stepstone Acquires French Job Site Sourcea.fr
Online recruiting site StepStone has acquired Sourcea.fr, a leading French niche market job board focused on telesales, banking, marketing and secretarial services. This acquisition marks StepStone's first acquisition in the French market since 2000, and will complement the company's existing French businesses, which includes job board StepStone.fr and StepStone Solutions France. Founded in 2000 by Boris Gourmelen, Sourcea.fr typically carries over 2,500 job vacancies across several niche sectors. StepStone has acquired Sourcea for an initial consideration of EUR 1.5 m, to be settled in cash, together with further payments in 2009 dependent upon financial performance in 2008. Boris Gourmelen will stay with the business and continue to lead his team of 15. Sourcea.fr will continue to operate as a separate online property alongside StepStone.fr, which will provide complimentary job board resources and related services. Colin Tenwick, CEO of StepStone, said: "France is one of the most important job markets in Europe and we are delighted to strengthen the position of our business by acquiring Sourcea. The acquisition enables us to widen our strategy of acquiring successful online job board properties and utilizing our expertise and resources to accelerate their market positions, and consolidate our leadership in France, which we believe offers considerable growth potential. I am confident that the local expertise of the new members of the StepStone team will make a significant contribution to our success in 2008."

Executive Recruitment Exhibition and Conference (EREC) 2008
Genie Management Group announces the acquisition of the Executive Recruitment Exhibition and Conference (EREC)
The Exhibition is the only executive recruitment exhibition and conference held in the UK and its acquisition consolidates the strategic growth of Genie Management Group as a key service provider to the HR and recruitment industry.
EREC 2008, now in its third year, was established by Eton Events Ltd in 2006 and has quickly established itself as a focal point for the executive recruitment industry. Last year's event attracted over 2500 visitors and more than 80 exhibitors.
"We are proud to have created EREC and delighted that it is being taken over by Genie Management Group. The event needs the additional resource and vision that a large group can bring in order to move it onto the next level in its development. The new owners have some exciting ideas and bring a real knowledge of the executive recruitment industry to the table" said Andrew Clark, managing director of Eton Events "we will remain involved in the event but wish every success to Genie Management Group".
Graham Fisher, Managing Director of Genie Management Group stated "we have been looking for the right opportunity to consolidate and grow our influence in the recruitment industry for some time. Event management was a natural area of growth for us given our knowledge of the recruitment industry and my background in running major sports tournaments. We believe the foundations are in place to dramatically increase the size of the exhibition this year and to further develop the conference."
EREC 2008 will be held at the Business Design Centre in Islington on 26th and 27th June.

How to Ace the Headhunter Interview
Don't try to script your first face-to-face interview. The headhunter wants to see the real you and find out how you handle unexpected challenges
by Joseph Daniel McCool
So you've fielded the headhunter's initial exploratory call (BusinessWeek.com, 10/25/07), a more in-depth follow-up call, and now you've been asked to schedule a face-to-face interview with the leadership recruiter who could punch your ticket to a new role in executive management.
It's important to remember, however, that you're still quite some way from realizing the true potential of this potentially career-making headhunter interview. That's because you're probably one of multiple candidates scheduled for interviews on this specific search assignment and, when all is said and done, only a handful will be granted an interview with the headhunter's client.
Even then, there's no guarantee that the hiring company will extend an offer of employment because, until you sign on the dotted line, there's plenty that could derail the search in which you're now involved. The hiring organization ultimately could decide that a talented insider is the best candidate for the position. It could call off the search because of new "organizational variables." Or the specifications for the position could change and shift the focus of the headhunter's courtship toward other candidates.
But it's equally important to understand that no big announcement of a new executive hire is possible without that individual's having sat down with the headhunter to share a true, complete, and compelling accounting of his or her professional work life, education, and personal background.
The fact that you've been invited to meet with a headhunter says good things about your reputation and the perceived value of your unique qualifications in today's intensely competitive executive talent market. So expect to answer some probing questions about where you've been and what you've done. And plan to ask your own prepared questions about what the hiring company really needs. How does it measure success in the executive suite? What kind of pressures is it feeling in its market? Where does its senior management team want to take it in the future? And how might you help them get there?

How to Ace the Headhunter Interview
When the Candidate Says No
How quickly a rejected job offer prompts us to say "Good riddance!" Instead, we should figure out why the recruitment process has failed
by Liz Ryan
Three managers are sitting around a conference table, congratulating one another. "That Joe Adams—great hire!" says one. "Yeah, he'll be a great addition to the team," comments another. "He drove a hard bargain, but he'll get our next product launch on track," adds the third. There's a knock at the door and a young human resources person pokes her head in.
"Bad news," she reports. "Joe Adams has declined our offer. There were a few reasons, but essentially he said he had too many concerns about the position."
"What!" thunders the most senior exec at the table. "That's outrageous. That was a great offer. He's got too high an opinion of himself."
"High maintenance," agrees his colleague.
"We're better off without him," remarks the third.
As an HR leader for Big Business, I was witness to this scene about eight zillion times. The leadership team first agrees that a candidate is great—he's outstanding, or she's brilliant. He's going to revolutionize our product marketing, our cost accounting, our international licensing. She's going to whip our sales force into shape. Then, disaster strikes. The candidate says no. In the blink of an eye, the story is rewritten. He's self-important; she doesn't know what she's passing up. We didn't land the candidate, so the candidate is flawed. Ever heard this story before? Of course—it's one of Aesop's most famous fables, The Fox and the Grapes. Once the fox realized the grapes were out of reach, he decided they were sour grapes, anyway. Who needs 'em?
